26-05-2009, 20:00
Building:3 - Lecture hall: 4, (next to Aretaios building)
Lecture abstract:
The evolution of wireless technologies has brought significant changes in modern communication networks through wireless extensions of the wired networks. Wireless communication offers users many benefits and will supports ubiquitous applications.
However, the next generation wireless networks face several unique security challenges due to their open network architecture, the shared wireless medium, limited resources, and their highly dynamic network topologies.
Dr. Burmester will discuss several applications of emerging wireless technologies, including WIFI/WiMAX networks, WSNs (wireless sensor networks), mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) and RFID (radio frequency identification) systems, and identify the threats and security challenges that have to be addressed.
