UNESCO has convenend a 30th anniversary celebration of the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme. This anniversary conference celebrated the accomplishments over the last three decades and advance authentic interdisciplinary dialogues and the cross-sectoral mobilization needed to confront complex challenges on the horizon. Dedicated to the theme of “Transforming knowledge for just and sustainable futures”, the two-day event was grounded in the spirit of scientific, moral, intellectual, and academic solidarity.
The conference was also an opportunity for networking to strengthen collaboration among members and with the UNESCO sector programmes. It included special sessions based around thematic clusters, allowing multiple opportunities for Chairs, Networks, UNESCO specialists, and other participants, to exchange and initiate new collaborations.
During the international conference of the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs to mark 30 years of existence, at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, from 3 to 4 November 2022, the UNESCO Chair on Threats to Cultural Heritage took part upon invitation to the Chair holderr Professor Stavros Katsios and contributed in one side event and two informal in-person meetings:
- the thematic session "Rethinking Interdisciplinary Cooperation for Culture in Emergencies" (3rd November 2022)
- an informal in-person meetinghosted by UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe for establishing a UNESCO Chairs regional network for the Mediterranean (3rd November 2022) and
- an informal in-person meeting hosted by the UNESCO Culture and Emergencies Directorate aiming at strengthening the cooperation and the operational capabilities for the protection of cultural heritage in emergencies (4th November 2022).
