The Department of Informatics and the Department of Environment of the Ionian University are organizing an inaugural Summer School on Environmental Informatics in Zakynthos, Greece, between 8-12 July 2019. The main objective of the Summer School is to combine innovative and existing methods that constitute the cognitive field of modern environmental science. In the context of the recent merger between the Ionian University and the former Technical Educational Institute of the Ionian Islands the implementation of lifelong learning activities emerged with a view to produce interdisciplinary postgraduate education programs, while exploiting the recent experience and specializations of the now-unified institution.
The environment, as a complex system, generally requires analysis of a number of parameters, typically directly related to its function. Additionally, a variety of hardware and software technologies are available today, in accordance to data recovery and analysis tools that in principle add value to the environmental information. Consequently, the Environmental Informatics domain provides capabilities to process and disseminate information in the interdisciplinary field of environmental science with the aim of integrating data, information and knowledge and applying computational intelligence to environmental data.
The proposed Summer School on Environmental Informatics focuses on modern environmental monitoring methods and includes both theoretical courses and applied workshops, that are divided into four thematic areas / sessions and are available in English.
More information about the program and the speakers is provided at the Summer School's website: http://events.di.ionio.gr/envi/.
