Meetings of Ionian University representatives with local authorities in Lefkada

During 15-16/11/2018, a team of Ionian University representatives, and more specifically Prof. Ioannis Dragonas, member of the Integration Council, Prof. Vaios Vaiopoulos, Dean of the School of Economics, and Prof. Phivos Mylonas, President of the Department of Regional Development, held meetings with the local authorities in Lefkada on the activities of the newly established Department of Regional Development.

Among others, meetings were held with the Deputy Regional Governor of Lefkada, Mr. Theodore Chalikias, the Mayor of Lefkada, Mr. Konstantinos Drakontaides and the Police Director of Lefkada, Mr. Dimitris Koromilas. Discussions began around the new structure of the Ionian University and the possibilities for cooperation between the actors of the local community and the Department of Regional Development with a view to its smooth and orderly functioning. Special mention was made for the Department of Economic and Social History of the Institute of Historical Studies based in the city of Lefkada, as well as the promotion of the Department of Regional Development through events and lectures of scientific and social interest, as well as its participation in Research and Development programs. In addition, the major issue of the housing of the new Department was also discussed and stressed the need for speeding up the procedures and synergy of all stakeholders involved for an immediate solution; the latter is evident after the granting of the building site (i.e., the old Youth Center in Lefkada) by the Greek State to the Ionian University and its funding by the Ministry of Education.
