At the fourth meeting of the Board of Directors of the scientific society "International Society for Ethics and Information Technology", INSEIT, on 30.5.2020, an international award committee was formed to offer the Weizenbaum Award in the field of information ethics, with members Emeritus Professor Herman Tavani, former President of the Society, Professor Keith Miller, President of the Society and Associate Professor Maria Kanellopoulou Botis, Director of the Society.

The International Society for Ethics and Information Technology (INSEIT)/Joseph Weizenbaum Award in Information and Computer Ethics is awarded every two years to an individual who has made significant contributions to the field of information and computer ethics through his/her research, service, and vision. The recipient’s work should have broad professional, theoretical or societal impact.

It is officially named the 'INSEIT/ Joseph Weizenbaum Award in Information and Computer Ethics', "in recognition of Joseph Weizenbaum's groundbreaking and highly influential work in computer ethics in the 1970s, which helped to shape the field as we know it today".
Proposals for this year's winner of the award can be submitted to the Director of the society (botti@otenet.gr) with a one-page biography description of the proposed person, until 30.9.2020. The winner receives a US $ 500 honorarium and will be invited to be the keynote speaker at the next CEPE 2021 conference, to be held in Hamburg, Germany from 5 to 8 July 2021
