A pedagogical approach to the Greek Revolution from the Ionian University in the context of the celebrations for the 200 Years of the Greek Revolution.
The Humanistic and Social Informatics Laboratory (HILab) of the Department of Informatics of the Ionian University created "BYRON": an innovative experiential educational serious game for exploring the social identity of the Greek Revolution. The Scientific Coordinator of the entire project is the Director of HILab, Associate Professor of the Department of Informatics, Dr. Phivos Mylonas.
The game is being developed with the contribution and cooperation of members of the Department of History and the Department of Regional Development of the Ionian University, while it is funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research & Innovation (H.F.R.I.) in the framework of the 1st Call of the Action "Science and Society" "200 Years since the Greek Revolution".
The main goal of "BYRON" is to create a digital educational serious game that will mainly involve students (but also those who still feel like children!), together with the social groups that participated in the Greek Revolution. In this way, the players utilize multifaceted information and are actively involved with dilemmas related to the conduct of the Greek Revolution, while through the 3D digital representation they deal with the action of social groups and utilize strategic elements for problem solving and critical formulation of solutions regarding to the relevant historical content.
The processing of historical content is carried out through the notion of game-centered learning, which is accompanied by educational scenarios and appropriate digital educational activities, while both players and teachers provide feedback on the educational value of the game.
