The successive extensions of the exhibition "...about the Desired University - The Ionian Academy and Lord Guilford" reflect the great success of this initiative. Organized by the Ionian University and the Corfu Reading Society, the exhibition commemorates the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Ionian Academy (1824-2024) and the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Ionian University (1984-2024). It highlights the role of the Ionian Academy and its founder, Lord Guilford, in supporting higher education in Greece and Europe.

The exhibition, hosted at the Department of Temporary Exhibitions (Peristylio- Municipal Gallery of Central Corfu and the Diapontian Islands), was inaugurated in December 2024. The exhibition, originally scheduled to run until March 30, 2025, has been extended due to significant interest from both residents and tourists.

Divided into four sections, the exhibition, presented in both Greek and English, showcases the history of the Ionian Academy, explores various facets of Lord Guilford's personality, and details their contributions to the development of Greek and European higher education. The displays feature original works, archival materials, reproductions, and digital elements that showcase the intellectual heritage of the Ionian Islands and link the historical contributions of the Ionian Academy to the modern Ionian University.

This exhibition presents an excellent opportunity for both permanent residents of Corfu and visitors from Greece and abroad to gain insight into the historical significance and contributions of the Ionian Academy and Lord Guilford to educational development in Greece and Europe.

Special thanks are due to the private collectors and institutions from Greece and abroad that have made their materials available for the exhibition. Additionally, the support from the Region of the Ionian Islands and the Municipality of Central Corfu, alongside the contributions of private donors, has been invaluable in realizing this project.
