The Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University and Labattoir (Old Slaughterhouses of Thessaloniki) invite you to the opening of Martha Gogakou’s exhibition titled A psychographic map, presented as part of the completion of her doctoral dissertation entitled: “On the abstract in art: Spiritual threads and subconscious weaving, or a psychogeographic map.”
The exhibition explores abstraction as a field of spiritual journey and inner geography, proposing an aesthetic and conceptual mapping where the unconscious, lived experience, and spatial memory intersect in new and unexpected ways.
In the vast web of existence, art has long been recognized as a channel for exploring the invisible realms of mind and spirit. Through it, both the artist and the viewer participate in the creative act of the sacred transmutation of the invisible into the visible, of nothing into something, of the immaterial into the material. Like a creative spider, the artist is called to search around, above, below, and—above all—within, to find those suitable fragments that will form the raw material for the thread with which the creative web will be woven.
