The History Educators International Research Network [HEIRNET] brings together colleagues from around the world interested in History's civilising, cultural, educational, moral, social, political and citizenship roles.

Greece and its neighbouring states are experiencing a resurgent Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and North African crisis. Daily the mass media reveal its full horrors of extremism, bigotry, xenophobia, racism, sectarianism, ethnic cleansing, internecine conflict, civil war and the destruction of civic society. Here History Education has a crucial role in educating for responsible citizenship through equipping teachers, pupils and students with the thinking tools of thinking historically. This empowers them to examine critically and constructively the wide-ranging problems all societies face and to develop civilized attitudes, behaviours, ethics and values. These include toleration, reconciliation, respect, acceptance and understanding of ‘the other’ as antidotes to hatred, civic discord and conflict.

The HEIRNET 2018 conference has 12 themes, each with from five to thirteen strands

Delegate Created Sessions – Themes and Topics
