The Municipal Gallery of Corfu in collaboration with the Albert Cohen Corfu Association present the exhibition "The Industrial Heritage of Corfu, 19th – 20th century", on the occasion of the publication of the homonymous bilingual book by the Albert Cohen Association in 2021. The scientific team of the Museum Collections of the Ionian University is curating the exhibition under the scientific guidance and supervision of Associate Professor Stavros Vlizos, Director of the Museum Collections of the Ionian University.
The exhibition presents the industrial history of Corfu from the early 19th to the end of the 20th century, a period during which there was significant industrial and craft development in the Ionian Islands. Through a thematic narration, products and raw materials from Corfiot craft and industrial units are exhibited, such as cigarettes from the tobacco industry Meniatis, carpets, ropes, sacks made in the factory of Alexandros Desyllas, olive oil and milk packaging of AEBEK, postcards and postage stamps printed in the factory Aspiotis - ELKA, pasta packaging of the flour industry - Spaghetti factory Zafeiropoulos, soaps of AEBEK and the soap factory Patouni, ceramics, wine and wine-making equipment from the Theotoki Estate, archival documents and rich photographic material, etc.
For the needs of the exhibition, authentic exhibits and digital material were kindly provided by institutions and many individuals such as: General State Archives (G.S.A.) - Archives of Corfu, Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection / Banknote Museum, Theotoki Estate, Patouni Soap Factory, Spiros Gaoutsis, Spyros Giourgas, George Kokkalis, Pericles Tsipis, etc.
The exhibition is presented at the Department of Temporary Exhibitions of Peristyle, opens on Wednesday, October 26 at 7:00 pm and will run until December 4, 2022.
