On Monday, 16 March 2026, the Department of Tourism of the Ionian University welcomed 90 students from Potamos Primary School and the 4th Experimental Primary School of Corfu “Athenagoreio”, accompanied by their teachers.
The visit took place in the context of a lecture of the course “Design and Development of Digital Tourism Applications”, delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Nikos Antonopoulos, with the participation of PhD Candidate Ms. Androniki Koutsikou. The activity was held in Lecture Hall 1 of the building located on I. Theotoki Street and included an innovative educational activity in the form of a hands-on workshop on misinformation and fake news.
Within this framework, students of the Department of Tourism studied the design and development of an educational digital game for children aged 9–12, aiming to help young learners recognize and address misinformation and fake news.
During the activity, the visiting pupils attended the lecture, participated in the hands-on workshop, and played the educational digital game, through which they became familiar with the concept of misinformation and further developed their critical thinking and information evaluation skills.
This activity is part of the Department of Tourism’s outreach initiatives and its engagement with the local community and the educational sector, contributing to students’ awareness of misinformation issues and their familiarization with the university environment.
