The Centre for the Study of the Ancient World of the Department of History and Digital Humanities at the Ionian University is organizing the workshop “Language, Argument, and Evidence in Science”, which will take place on 16–17 October 2026, with both in-person and online participation.
The workshop explores the complex interaction between language, argumentation, and evidence in ancient scientific discourse. Particular attention is given to the rhetorical, linguistic, and conceptual strategies through which scientific claims and arguments are formulated, justified, interpreted, and communicated.
The workshop brings together scholars from different fields, with contributions addressing ancient scientific texts, rhetoric, philosophy and history of science, as well as broader questions concerning scientific argumentation and communication.
