On 18 March, at 9.30, at Amphitheatron 1, a unique event takes place, namely a symposium, chaired by William Mallinson of the DFLTI, on whether or not Standard English is dying. Sponsored by the British Council, world famous writer on the English language, David Crystal, will speak on the future of Englishes, while Richard Pine, author, journalist and founder and Director Emeritus of the Durrell School, will talk about post-colonial aspects. William Mallinson will talk about what has happened to Foreign Office English. Students attending the seminar, which ends at 16.30, will be awarded a certificate. University staff are also welcome. There will plenty of opportunity to debate from the floor.

This will be the inaugural event of the Laboratory for the History of the Documentation of British-Greek Relations, and is intended to lead to further events involving all departments, to scholarships and exchanges, the essential aim being to nurture British-Greek relations.

In the attached .zip file you will find the Symposium's programme and poster.
