The Audiovisual Arts Festival, that is taking place every May in Corfu for the last ten years as an initiative of the Department of Audio-Visual Arts and the Electroacoustic Music Research and Applications Laboratory[EPHMEE] of Ionian University, brings this year a large part of its activities in Athens, at the hospitable at the Athens Megaron.

In this Festival, which hosts multifarious events focusing on the creative synthesis between the arts and current electronic/digital technologies, the EPHMEE undertakes the presentation of electroacoustic music projects by means of a custom multichannel audio diffusion system, designed specifically for this series of concerts at Megaron's Banquet Room. The program of this presentation evolves in five thematically organised concerts that will be realised - three - on Saturday 20 and - two - on May 21. It includes works of various types of electroacoustic music such as acousmatic fixed media, electronics and musical instrument and/or visual projections, live electronics et.al.

The 11th Audiovisual Arts Festival hosts two Austrian composers specially invited for the events of this weekend, Volkmar Klien and Thomas Gorbach, who will present their work on Sunday 20/5.

The audio diffusion system is based on the EPHMEE sound projection system and was expanded with the sound system installed in Banquet room as well as additional equipment from various other sources.

This event is organised in collaboration with the e Γεφυρες (Bridges) program of the Athens Megaron with the participation of the Department of Sound Technology and Musical Instruments of the TEI of Ionian Islands.

The foundation in 2003 of the Electroacoustic Music Research and Applications Lab ( EPHMEE, from its acronym in Greek) was the result of a rich educational, research and artistic activity in the broader field of Music and New Technologies within the Music Department of Ionian University. EPHMEE focuses particularly on elecrtroacoustic music composition and performance research and production, the study of the sonic environment and the development of pedagogical approaches to cultivate the awareness about the soundscape we live in. EPHMEE, in parallel with its academic function, organises electroacoustic music concerts and related events, conferences and advanced summer schools on the arts and technologies of sound, participates in european programs focusing on acoustic ecology, et.al. Its research and artistic activities have been the initiative for the annual concert series of the Hellenic Electroacoustic Music Composers Association and the foundation of the Hellenic Society for Acoustic Ecology.
