Department of Music Studies: 8th Choral Conducting Summer Academy [1-7/7/17]

The 8TH Summer Academy in Choral Conducting for Children and Youth choirs of the Ionian University, is to take place on the beautiful island of Corfu, Greece, from July 1st - 7th 2017, with the internationally acclaimed conductor and Emeritus Professor of Toronto University, Doreen Rao. The summer school is ideal for school and community choral directors. Official language is English.

Doreen Rao, a four times Grammy award winner fo her choral performances, specializes in choral conducting and choral pedagogy for children and youth choirs.

Festival and Jazz Academy: Corfu Jazz World 2017

The City of Corfu, the Ionian University and the Corfiot Events Organization are launching "Corfu Jazz World", a world-class jazz festival and academy.

The 1st Corfu Jazz World which will take place from the 24th until the 30th of July 2017, includes concerts and seminars with great artists.

Concerts will take place from the 25th until the 28th of July 2017, while Jazz Academy will take place from the 24th until the 29th of July 2017.

The Corfu Jazz World Director, saxophonist and Professor of the Ionian University Dimos Dimitriadis states that:

Jazz is at the same time the youngest among western art music traditions, as well as the first global popular music in history.
Corfu is the island of music: birthplace of the oldest western musical tradition in modern Greece, and host to the best jazz academic program in the country.
The City of Corfu, the Ionian University and the Corfiot Events Organization are launching "Corfu Jazz World", a world-class jazz festival and academy.
