The winner of the 2022 prestigious Weizenbaum Award for excellence in computer ethics has been awarded by the three - member Weizenbaum Award Committee to Professor Philip Brey of the University of Twente. The three members of the Committee were Maria Bottis, Director of the International Society for Ethics and Information Technology, Keith Miller, President of the International society for Ethics and Information Technology and Herman Tavani, past President of the Society.

The EU-funded Horizon 2020 SIENNA project, where the Ionian University is a partner, has been awarded a Champions Certificate for its contribution to the ethical dimensions of the Information Society at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum. Maria Bottis, Professor of Information Law at the Ionian University, coordinated the Ionian University’s contribution to the SIENNA project, which worked to ensure that human rights, fundamental freedoms, and ethical values are respected in the design, development and deployment of new and emerging technologies.
