This book provides a significant contribution to our understanding of the Ottoman Empire’s economic history, particularly through its exploration of local entrepreneurship, which brings new perspectives to the economic dynamics of the region.

The Ionian University excavation at the prehistoric settlement of Koimisi in Therasia has brought to light an important find, which sheds light on the first steps in the creation of writing in the prehistoric Aegean. The find was published in open access by Cambridge University Press, in an article by K. Sbonia, I. Tzachilis and G. Kordatzakis.

Beginning in the academic year 2025–2026, the Department of History within the Faculty of Humanities at the Ionian University will be renamed to the "Department of History and Digital Humanities". The department’s curriculum will be expanded to include a new digital dimension, aimed at addressing contemporary academic needs and strengthening the digital skills of its graduates, without altering the Department’s core academic discipline.

The University of Thessaly (Department of History, Archaeology and Social Anthropology), the Ionian University (Department of History) and the Roma Tre University (Department of Studi Umanistici) collaborated to create a joint English-language postgraduate (MSc) program in Field Archaeology in Greece, combining a truly interdisciplinary approach with applied cutting-edge technologies.

In the hope that COVID ’19 pandemic will be overcome by spring 2022, the 5th Changing Cities international conference will take place in Corfu Island, 20-25 June 2022. The conference is organized by the University of Thessaly, Lab of urban Morphology and Design, Department of Planning & Regional Development, Volos, Greece, in co-organisation with Ionian University, Department of History, Corfu Island, Greece.

We present here the new international journal Rhetoric & Science, which belongs to the field of Classical Philology, Rhetoric and Science, which started in April 2019 as a follow-up activity of the International Conference ‘Mapping the Rhetoric of Science Writing in Antiquity and Beyond’ held at the History Department of the Ionian University in March 2019 and organized by the Centre for the Study of the Ancient World (CSAW).

The present volume is a Festschrift in honour of the distinguished Byzantinist Costas N. Constantinides. The Ecomuseum of Petriti and South Corfu takes shape through the cultural itineraries designed as part of the 'INTEREG VA' Greece-Italy 2014-2020 'FISH & CHIPS Project by the Department of History of the Ionian University (headed by K. Sbonias and A. Kapetanios).
