The Ionian University announces that, from September 1st, 2026, the Department of Archives, Library Science, and Museology will be renamed as the Department of Information Science, according to Government Gazette No. 4296 of August 7, 2025, Series B. The new name reflects the Department’s evolution and the expansion of its academic and research fields, while preserving its long tradition and academic excellence in the fields of Archives, Libraries, Museums and Cultural Heritage.

The International Conference “By the Book10” on the Publishing Industry and the Book, titles “Divergence and Convergence in Publishing Today”, was successfully held on June 25 and 26, 2025, at the Ionian University. The By the Book10 Conference was organized by the Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology, along with the “Information Technologies Laboratory” (director: Professor Petros Kostagiolas), and was held under the auspices of the European Publishing Studies Association (EuroPub).

The Committee for the selection of the 2024-2025 Fellowships (Maria Bottis, INSEIT Director, Keith Miller, INSEIT President and Herman Tavani INSEIT ex-President of INSEIT) awarded by the International Society for Ethics and Information Technology, has announced that two Fellowships will be awarded to two PhD students of the Ionian University.

On Friday 17 February 2023, at the premises of ILAM and online via Zoom, an International Conference will take place in the framework of the research project "Zoara/Zughar in the Ghor as-Safi, Jordan: Interdisciplinary Research and Study of the Discoveries of an Early Byzantine and Medieval Islamic Commercial City in Palaestina Tertia - southern Bilad ash-Sham".

The winner of the 2022 prestigious Weizenbaum Award for excellence in computer ethics has been awarded by the three - member Weizenbaum Award Committee to Professor Philip Brey of the University of Twente. The three members of the Committee were Maria Bottis, Director of the International Society for Ethics and Information Technology, Keith Miller, President of the  International society for Ethics and Information Technology and Herman Tavani, past President of the Society.

The EU-funded Horizon 2020 SIENNA project, where the Ionian University is a partner, has been awarded a Champions Certificate for its contribution to the ethical dimensions of the Information Society at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum. Maria Bottis, Professor of Information Law at the Ionian University, coordinated the Ionian University’s contribution to the SIENNA project, which worked to ensure that human rights, fundamental freedoms, and ethical values are respected in the design, development and deployment of new and emerging technologies.

Prof. Maria Bottis was re-elected Director of the International Society of Ethics and Information Technology

The book by Dr Konstantinos D. Politis, a Postdoctoral scholar at the Ionian University, presents the archaeological work of two decades, under his direction with the participation of Dr Georgios Papaioannou, Associate Professor in the Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology of the Ionian University, at biblical Zoara located at modern Ghor as-Safi in Jordan, the lowest place on the earth's surface.

The International Society for Ethics and Information Technology (INSEIT)/Joseph Weizenbaum Award in Information and Computer Ethics is awarded every two years to an individual who has made significant contributions to the field of information and computer ethics through his/her research, service, and vision.

The programme proposal with the title: Network on Privacy-Aware Audio- and Video-Based Applications for Active and Assisted Living (Acronym: GoodBrother) has been accepted in the framework of the Horizon 2020, EU COST ACTIONS.
