The WWW Virtual Library The WWW Virtual Library (VL) is the oldest catalog of the Web, started by Tim Berners-Lee, the creator of html and the Web itself, in 1991 at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. Unlike commercial catalogs, it is run by a loose confederation of volunteers, who compile pages of key links for particular areas in which they are expert; even though it isn't the biggest index of the Web, the VL pages are widely recognised as being amongst the highest-quality guides to particular sections of the Web. ![]() |

Writing for the Web: Aprimer for Librarians The most time consuming aspects of managing a library Web service are the creation and maintenance of site documents and assets. Although the organizational structure and contents of a Web site varies from library to library, participants in all library Web projects need to be familiar with the concepts and terminology associated with creating documents and resources for the Web. This document is not an in-depth HTML guide, but is instead a general introduction to Web content creation. Newer technologies are briefly described and references to other resources are provided. This is also an interactive document and provides the reader access to associated resources ![]() |

Electronic Textbook Design Guidelines The need for best practice guidelines for the design of electronic textbooks arose from the growing availability of learning and teaching material for Higher Education in electronic format, to which students are increasingly turning as a first port of call when seeking material to support their studies. With initiatives such as the National Grid for Learning and The People's Network improving the flow of online material, it is timely to pay attention to the internal design of the resources themselves so that, once accessed, the required data can be retrieved as quickly and easily as possible. ![]() |

Museology Bibliography (BMUSE) Museology Bibliography (BMUSE) brings together holdings from many international sources, including the UNESCO-ICOM Museum Information Centre, the Library of the Canadian Conservation Institute, and the Library of the Direction des Musées de France. Referenced material includes over 25,000 journals, journal articles, books, and reports published from 1900 to the present. The database will be expanded to include material from other international repositories of museological literature. This database assists museum studies students, museum professionals, curators, researchers, and librarians to keep abreast of current literature in specialized fields. Data are mainly in English and French, but subject key word fields contain data in both languages. ![]() |
