Επίσκεψη Καθηγητών του Πανεπιστημίου του Kentucky στο Τμήμα Μουσικών Σπουδών του Ιονίου Πανεπιστημίου στο πλαίσιο έναρξης διμερούς συμφωνίας των δύο Πανεπιστημίων [16-20/10/2023]

Την εβδομάδα από 16 έως 20 Οκτωβρίου, οκτώ μέλη του διδακτικού προσωπικού του Μουσικού Τμήματος του Πανεπιστημίου του Kentucky (University of Kentucky (UK), Lexington, Kentucky, USA) θα τιμήσουν με την επίσκεψή τους το Τμήμα Μουσικών Σπουδών του Ιονίου Πανεπιστημίου. Η επίσκεψη αυτή πραγματοποιείται στο πλαίσιο της έναρξης διμερούς συνεργασίας ανάμεσα στο Ιόνιο Πανεπιστήμιο και στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Kentucky.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της παραμονής τους στην Κέρκυρα, οι προσκεκλημένοι καθηγητές θα συναντηθούν με τις Πρυτανικές Αρχές του Ιδρύματος και, παράλληλα, θα πραγματοποιήσουν σεμινάρια, master classes και εργαστηριακά μαθήματα για τους φοιτητές του Τμήματος Μουσικών Σπουδών.

Επίσης, την Τετάρτη 18 Οκτωβρίου στις 8.00 το βράδυ δύο από τα μέλη του διδακτικού προσωπικού του Παν/μίου του Kentucky, οι Dr. Ben Arnold και Dr. Jennifer Campbell, θα δώσουν διάλεξη στην Ιόνιο Ακαδημία με θέμα: «Music and War/Music and Diplomacy», ενώ την Πέμπτη 19 Οκτωβρίου στις 8.00 το βράδυ θα δοθεί συναυλία στον ίδιο χώρο, με τη συμμετοχή όλων των μελών της αποστολής.

Η συνεργασία του Πανεπιστημίου του Kentucky με το Τμήμα Μουσικών Σπουδών του Ιονίου Πανεπιστημίου ξεκίνησε πριν από δύο χρόνια. Αφετηρία αποτέλεσε η επίσκεψη του Καθηγητή Dr. Jason Dovel το 2021 στο Τμήμα Μουσικών Σπουδών, κατά τη διάρκεια της εκπαιδευτικής του άδειας, όπου δίδαξε μαθήματα τρομπέτας σε συνεργασία με τον Καθηγητή τρομπέτας Σωκράτη Άνθη. Η δεύτερη επίσκεψη του ίδιου καθηγητή πραγματοποιήθηκε τον Ιούνιο του 2023, μαζί με πολλούς φοιτητές του Πανεπιστημίου του Kentucky, μετά από πρόσκληση της Φιλαρμονικής Εταιρείας «Μάντζαρος» και στο πλαίσιο των σπουδών των φοιτητών του Πανεπιστημίου του Kentucky στο εξωτερικό (UK Education Abroad).

Τον Νοέμβριο 2022, στο πλαίσιο της δράσης Pharos Summit 2022, εκπρόσωποι του Ιονίου Πανεπιστημίου συναντήθηκαν με εκπροσώπους αμερικανικών Πανεπιστημίων. Η συνάντηση αυτή αποτέλεσε την αφετηρία σύναψης διμερών σχέσεων με Πανεπιστήμια από την Αμερική (όπως τα Columbia, George Mason, Princeton, Stockton, Alabama, Kentucky και William & Mary). Δράσεις όπως αυτή είναι σε απόλυτη αρμονία με έναν από τους βασικούς στρατηγικούς στόχους του Τμήματος Μουσικών Σπουδών: αυτόν της διεθνοποίησης των μουσικών σπουδών που προσφέρει, μέσα από τη συστηματική ανάπτυξη διεθνών συνεργιών, με στόχο την ανάδειξή του ως σημείου αναφοράς στην ακαδημαϊκή έρευνα, την καλλιτεχνική δημιουργία και την ανάπτυξη καινοτόμων προγραμμάτων σπουδών στον ευρύτερο γεωγραφικό χώρο της Ευρώπης και της Αμερικής.

Σύντομα Βιογραφικά Προσκεκλημένων Καθηγητών του Πανεπιστημίου του Kentucky Dr. Jason Dovel (trumpet) is an associate professor of trumpet at the University of Kentucky and Chair of the Division of Winds, Percussion, and Jazz. For his 2021 sabbatical, he taught at Ionian University as a Guest Professor and has been a guest soloist and guest conductor with the Mantzaros Philharmonic. He is the Vice President/President-Elect of the International Trumpet Guild.

Dr. Tze-Ying Wu (viola) is the Assistant Professor of Viola and String Education at the University of Kentucky and directs the UK String Project. She also serves on the Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts faculty for instrumental music. An active performer, Dr. Wu has played with the Lexington Philharmonic, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, and Singapore Symphony Orchestra. In addition, as a member of the Formosa Trio (va/fl/hp), she has given performances in the US, China, and Taiwan. Dr. Wu received her Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University.

Dr. Ben Arnold (piano and musicology), a musicology professor at the University of Kentucky specializes in the music of Franz Liszt (The Liszt Companion, Greenwood Press) and the topic of music and war (Music and War, Garland Press). He serves as the Journal of the American Liszt Society editor and frequently performs as a collaborative pianist with soprano Elizabeth Packard Arnold.

Dr. Elizabeth Packard Arnold (soprano and Mindfulness) is a Professor of Voice at the University of Kentucky and specializes in Baroque repertoire as well as mindfulness for artists and musicians. She frequently performs in collaboration with her husband and pianist, Ben Arnold, performing the vocal music of Franz Liszt.

Bradley Kerns (trombone and jazz studies) is an associate professor of trombone at the University of Kentucky. As a soloist, Brad has performed on multiple occasions at the Eastern Trombone Workshop, the International Trombone Festival, the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the Great American Brass Band Festival, the Jazz Education Network Conference, the Moscow Brass Days, the Brazilian Trombone Association Conference, the Art College of Inner Mongolia, and the DIA T Festival in Recife, Brazil.

Dr. Jacob Coleman (piano) is an associate professor of piano at the University of Kentucky. As a collaborator, Dr. Coleman has performed with artists such as Franklin Cohen, William Ludwig, Jeff Nelsen, Leone Busye, Nancy Ives, Frederick Burchinal, as well as the Kenari Quartet. As a vocal coach, he has held staff positions with the University of Georgia Opera Theatre and the Astoria Music Festival.

Ethan Young (cello) is a cellist in Lexington, Kentucky, where he is the cello director for the University of Kentucky String Project and teaches for the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra’s Musicworks program. He performs regularly with the West Virginia Symphony, the Dayton Philharmonic and the Lexington Philharmonic, and has performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Louisville Orchestra and the Tanglewood Music Center Festival Orchestra. From 2015 to 2019, he was a full-time member of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and the Rockefeller String Quartet. He has degrees from the University of Michigan and Indiana University.

Dr. Jennifer L. Campbell (music theory) is an assistant professor specialising in twentieth-century American music, focusing on composers Aaron Copland, Virgil Thomson, and Paul Bowles. She holds a Ph.D. in music theory and history and an M.A. in historical musicology from the University of Connecticut. Her dissertation delves into American musical diplomacy of the early 1940s, chronicling the role music and musicians played in the U.S. government’s attempt to shape inter-American relationships.
